Maybe you’re considering adoption, but you have negative stereotypes running through your mind. It’s not what it used to be!
Adoption has changed a lot in recent years, and is a worthy option to consider if you find yourself in an unplanned pregnancy and are concerned about how you would parent at this stage in your life. It provides a different, yet healthy way to parent and provide for your baby. It means you are able to pursue your life goals without the responsibility of parenting or the potential risks of abortion.
Choose the Adoption Plan That’s Right for You
There are three different types of adoption plans: open, semi-open, or confidential adoption. These options include varying degrees of confidentiality and openness in the adoption process, so you can choose the one that’s best for you.
The decision to make an adoption plan can be made any time during your pregnancy or even after your baby is born.
You probably have many questions when thinking about adoption. Alpha Omega Center has great resources to help figure out if this is the healthiest option for you.
Open Adoption
In an open adoption, you will have ongoing contact with your child and the adoptive family throughout and after the adoption takes place. You can have a relationship that allows you and your child to be close and to ensure he or she receives the care needed in a loving home.
Semi-Open Adoption
A semi-open adoption allows you to have limited communication to your child and the adoptive family. You can receive letters and photos of your child but the communication between you and the family would be mediated by an agency or a third party.
Confidential Adoption
In a confidential or closed adoption, there is no contact with the adoptive parents before, during, or after your pregnancy. You won’t receive photos or letters or have any communication with your child as he or she grows up. Birth records will remain sealed. This option often is best for women who want to move on and allow their child to have a life independent of them.
The Choice is Yours
An adoption agency will help you choose an adoption plan that is right for you. There are many different variations of the plans mentioned above and Alpha Omega Center will connect you with an agency that can help walk you through your options. By meeting with an adoption agency you are not promising you will make an adoption plan, you are only learning about this option. Nobody can force you to make an adoption plan for your child, the choice is yours.
Alpha Omega Center does not participate in the adoption process nor profit from any choice you make.
